About the Founders

Drs. Steven and Christine Robinson founded ILDI in 2004 after years of short-term medical work in Africa and South America.  One of the greatest gaps they saw was that local organizations needed empowerment and capacity development.  Instead of dictating program specifics or structure, they formed ILDI to be a partner for development.  With their backgrounds in medicine, the Robinsons? approach to the community issues they encountered in the developing world mimicked their approach as clinicians to a patient with multiple diseases needing treatment - a holistic, integrated approach.  This approach is reflected throughout ILDI's vision, values and most importantly, program design.

Dr. Steven Robinson received his MD degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and currently is a hospital-based physician at a large referral hospital in Nashville, TN.  Steven Robinson serves as the Chairman of the Board for ILDI.

Dr. Christine Robinson worked as a commercial lender in Chicago, IL after graduating from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN (BA-Economics).  She then matriculated at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine for her MD-Master in Public Health degree.  She now heads ILDI as President.
