Institute
for Community Development |
|
| ILDI’s
Institute for Community Development in South Africa is a notable
exception to the strategy outlined above. The Institute for
Community Development will provide comprehensive training for
community development leaders in all aspects of program planning,
implementation, accounting and funding. The Institute will provide
a jump-start for community development on the continent of Africa
by imparting in a few months of classroom training and internships
what decades of hands-on experience formerly demanded. By training
the community development leaders for a continent, ILDI’s
impact spreads beyond our direct programs, further advancing
our impact. |

| Sierra
Leone: Partnership with New Harvest Development Office (NEHADO) |
| ILDI
was originally founded out of a desire to expand our impact
|
|
 |
| for
the nation of Sierra Leone. Realizing the gem of an organization
that New Harvest Development Office is, we sought to help
this nonprofit succeed in serving their community with greater
impact and geographical reach. Our partnership with New Harvest
Development Office started with assisting in funding, providing
needed medicines and additional training for staff of their
Medical Center. |
x |
|
This has expanded to include the following programs: |
- New
Harvest Medical Center: preventive care and treatment of
illnesses for 200+ women and children monthly from main
clinic site and 5 villages per month from mobile clinics.
|
- New
Harvest Medical Center: obstetrical care for patients referred
from area traditional birth attendants needing more advanced
delivery assistance.
|
- New
Harvest Microcredit Program: to launch in spring, 2007,
will provide microcredit services, functional literacy and
human rights training in six urban and rural locations,
targeting primarily women.
|
- New
Harvest HIV Prevention Program: to launch 2007, will provide
HIV prevention services, small microcredit and seed loan
fund, World AIDS Day program, human rights training and
functional literacy to women and youth.
|
- Certificate
of Societal Leadership Training Program for community and
business leaders in Bo and Freetown – a three-year
certificate program offered to local community and business
leaders with sessions on ethics, corruption, human rights,
leadership, and business management principles.

for African leaders working in the informal settlements
(shanty towns) and townships to multiply their effectiveness.
|
- Practical
training in community development for those on the frontline
providing care for AIDS/HIV+ children and adults, early
childhood education, youth development, health education
