Institute for Community Development
The Cry of Africa: Don't Leave Us Behind!
With the advancements in the developed world, it is easy to see how hard it has become for developing nations to "keep up." Add to this the overwhelming scope of some of the problems that local nonprofits address:
- HIV infection rates above 30% of the adult population,
- entire villages of children orphaned,
- severe flooding devastating entire regions of nations, and
- civil wars destablilizing large regions of the continent.
How can small local nonprofits expect to survive such an onslaught and serve their communities well?
The Answer: targeted training to jump-start nonprofit's capacity
Many smaller nonprofits in Africa are doing amazing work - work that no one hears about in the US and would never find on a website. But, this work is done by a small, dedicated core of staff. These nonprofits cannot afford the time or the resources to send their best and brightest for additional training at an accredited school. Enter the Institute for Community Development.
The Institute will provide comprehensive training for community development leaders in all aspects of program planning, implementation, evaluation and funding - but will be cost-effective and only require a time commitment of 4-6 months!
The Institute will provide a jump-start for community development in impoverished communities by imparting in several months of classroom training and internships what years of trial and error or hands-on experience formerly demanded. By training indigenous community development leaders, ILDI's impact spreads beyond our direct programs, to people in the communities of need.
